The 2016 ILM Art Department Challenge Winners Announcement Source: ILM – ArtStation May 4th 2016 ILM and ArtStation.com have announced the first ILM Art Department Challenge in search of artists with the ability to create concept artwork in the Star Wars universe. The ILM Art Department Challenge had 3,888 artists respond. On May 18th the first challenge: The Moment – creating concept art from classic Star Wars Episode IV-VI movies. 330 artists were invited to the second stage – The Ride – which asked artists to design new Star Wars vehicles. Only 224 artists qualified for The Job Challenge: 6 concept art challenges that tested each artist’s ability to produce work quickly, to receive last minute Director’s changes, and to experience what it is like to work at ILM on a Star Wars project. After three weeks of back to back challenges, 16 Art Directors from ILM judged the results to narrow the field down to eight finalists.
